SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT

The Workshop on Geometric Methods in Physics is the annual international conference in the field of mathematical physics and mathematics organized by the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Białystok, Poland.

The topics covered at the meetings span wide areas of classical and quantum physics, geometry, topology, analysis and algebra, inspired by geometric approaches to problems arising in physics.

The conference offers an excellent opportunity for the exchange of ideas between physicists and mathematicians, in an informal and inviting setting. We especially encourage the participation of early career scientists.

The arrival date is Sunday, June 30. The scientific activity will run from Monday, July 1 till Saturday, July 6. The departure date is Sunday, July 7.

The 2024 Workshop will take place in the campus of our University in Białystok located at Ciołkowskiego 1M, Białystok.

Scientific programme of the conference

The programme consists of invited plenary lectures (55 minutes), as well as other invited and contributed talks (40 or 25 minutes). Participants are also offered the possibility of presenting their contributions in poster form. On-line participation will be possible for those who will not be able to attend in person.

School for Young Researchers (July 8-12)

The School on Geometry and Physics is adressed to young researchers and graduate students. This year it takes place in Białystok over the week after the Workshop in the Campus of our University. The School will start on July 8 and end July 12 (arrival is planned for July 7, departure on July 13).

During the School the following 3-hour courses will be presented by the following leading experts in domains of mathematics related to mathematical physics:

• Jerzy Kijowski (Warsaw) - On quantization
• Gabriel Larotonda (Buenos Aires) - Geometry of infinite dimensional Grassmannians: exponential map and conjugate points
• Vladimir Salnikov (La Rochelle) - Generalized geometry in relations to physics and mechanics
• Anna Zamojska-Dzienio (Warsaw) - Barycentric algebras – convexity and order

Proceedings volume

Over the past several years, we published a volume containing selected contributions of participants of the Workshop in the series Trends in Mathematics by Birkhäuser, see here for more information. The volume will also be published this year. Details will be announced during the conference.

Registration fee

The conference fee for the Workshop is €350 and it covers the conference materials, coffee breaks, lunches, conference dinner and the social programme. The fee for on-line participants is €200. Please send us an electronic confirmation of transfer.

The cost of the School is €150 (includes conference materials, coffee breaks, lunches, as well as the social programme). Note that there is no virtual participation possible for the School.

There are many hotels and pensions in Białystok to chose from in various price range. You can check out the travel page for a map of Białystok with approximate locations of some of the hotels.

Social events

During the Workshop we will organize several special events. On Tuesday evening we plan to have a campfire with grilled meat and other traditional dishes. On Thursday there will be a conference dinner. We intend also to organize a guided excursion on Wednesday afternoon.

Getting from Warsaw to Białystok

There are several possible ways to reach Białystok from Warsaw, the most convenient one is usually by train. The trip from Warsaw Central train station takes around 2.5 hours. There are around dozen trains to Białystok each day. Usually there are no trains departing late at night though. The best way to get to the Warsaw Central train station from the Chopin Airport is to take a train at the airport to Warsaw Central (Warszawa Centralna) or Railway Station "Śródmieście". The trip takes around 30 minutes. There are also several buses, some of which depart directly from the Chopin Airport. There may also be buses which depart late at night when no trains are available.
