Tau functions as generating functions for enumerative geometric invariants


The course deals with the use of KP and 2D-Toda tau functions, and their associated multicurrent correlators, as generating functions for enumerative geometrical invariants relating to Riemann surfaces. Examples covered will include:
  1. The Kontsevich matrix model tau function as generating function for intersection numbers on the moduli space of marked Riemann surfaces
  2. Brezin-Hikami type matrix model tau functions as generating functions for enumeration of graphs on Riemann surfaces
  3. Hypergeometric tau functions as generating functions for weighted Hurwitz numbers, and their matrix integral representations.
